Life in an Oak Tree illustrates the number of mosses, lichens, invertebrates that an Oak tree supports whilst the orange depicts the number of species
that rely solely on the Oak for survival. The work is sewn with French knots to represent the data and coloured thread illustrates the species groupings:
- Orange - Totally reliant on the Oak for survival
- Lime - Fungi
- Dark Green- Lichens
- Blue - Invertebrates
The knots are sewn on Irish linen with organic wadding for the padding. The quilting is taken from an image of the Oak Tree trunk growing in my garden. Life in an Oak Tree is mounted on reclaimed oak.
Recording an Oak is a daily photographic capture between at 06.50am and 7.00am. This is ongoing work following the yearly cycle. The first image was
captured 21st December 2022
